What to Expect

The best way to protect your vision is a yearly comprehensive eye exam. When you arrive at our office, you will be greeted with friendly faces. Each eye exam will use the latest state-of-the-art technology to assess your eye health. The doctor will inspect your eyes, answer questions, and discuss your eye care treatment options. In addition to determining your vision prescription, our doctor will test your color vision, depth perception, and check for any early indicators of possible eye conditions such as cataracts, retinal problems, and glaucoma.

Our goal is to have each patient leave satisfied knowing that they are receiving the best eye care products and services possible.

Technology

Optos Optomap

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. Maui Optometry offers the optomap® as an important part of our eye exams. The optomap produces an image that is unique and creates a high-resolution 200° image in order to ascertain the health of your retina. This is much wider than a traditional 45° image. Many eye problems can develop without your knowledge. In fact, you may not even notice any change in your sight – fortunately, diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.

The inclusion of optomap as part of a comprehensive eye exam provides:

  • A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
  • A view of the retina, giving your doctor a more comprehensive view than they can get by other means.
  • The opportunity for you to view and discuss the optomap image of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.
  • A permanent record for your file, which allows Dr. Nguyen to view your images each year to look for changes.

The optomap is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The optomap images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.

Retinal Camera

Retinal Camera

The Canon CR-2 allows us to photograph the inside of the eye: Blood vessels, nerves and retina for diagnosis and future comparison of eye diseases related to diabetes, high blood pressure, neurological disorders and other medical conditions. A picture gives us the unique diagnostic experience to detect eye disease earlier and monitor the back of the eye for changes.

Optical Coherence Tomography

RTVueOCT is used for taking cross-sectional pictures of the retina. It is used to diagnose and follow treatment in certain eye conditions and diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other diseases affecting the macula.

Humphrey Visual Field

Visual Field Analyzer

Humphrey – HFA & FDTPlotting of the field of vision: allowing us to detect blind spots in the field of view that may be related to diseases like glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, retinal detachment and vascular disease. We also receive referrals from plastic surgeons so that we can document field defects related to droopy eyelids for insurance purposes.

Auto Refractor/Abberrometer

The i.Profilerplus by Zeiss is a powerful 3 in 1 device combining wavefront measurement, autorefraction and proven ATLAS corneal topography. We now prescribe the new Zeiss i.Scription lens – delivering a more accurate prescription that gives you superior optics and quality vision.
